tracing
Following a path
Tracing is following or reproducing a path.
You trace a route on a map, trace the outline of a shape by drawing over it, or trace a phone call to its origin.
A tracing is the copy produced—typically a drawing made by placing thin paper over an original and following its lines.
In computing, tracing tracks program execution for debugging: The tracing showed where the code failed.
