skip

Leave it out

Skip suggests forward movement through time or space that is not smoothly continuous.

If you skip a usual activity, you don’t do it: I decided to skip lunch.

If your heart literally skips a beat, it misses one of its regular pulsations – though the expression is also used figuratively to suggest strong emotion: When I saw him, my heart skipped a beat.

If you skip town, you leave suddenly and unexpectedly.

A skip is an instance of skipping, or in British English, a dumpster.
