overdub

Add tracks later

To overdub is to add a new recorded layer—voice, instrument, or effect—onto an existing recording.

The technique allows musicians to build up tracks incrementally rather than performing everything at once: She overdubbed the harmonies after laying down the lead vocal.

As a noun, an overdub is the added layer itself: The guitar overdubs gave the track its texture.
