suffragists

Ballot rights campaigners

Suffragists were activists who campaigned for voting rights, particularly women's right to vote.

The term applies especially to those in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who fought for women's suffrage in Britain and America: The suffragists marched on Washington.

The more militant British activists were called suffragettes, often by their opponents.
