amendment

Formal document change

An amendment is a change or addition to a document, law, or agreement.

In the U.S., the word most often refers to changes to the Constitution: the First Amendment, the Fifth Amendment.

To amend is to revise or improve: amend the contract, amend your ways.

A friendly amendment is a minor change proposed during deliberation that the original author accepts.
