Mother Teresa
Missionaries of Charity
Mother Teresa was an Albanian-born Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, dedicating her life to serving the poorest of the poor.
She became an international symbol of charitable work and self-sacrifice, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
Her name now serves as shorthand for saintly compassion: You don't have to be Mother Teresa to volunteer at a soup kitchen.
