herstory
Feminist chronicle field
Herstory is a feminist coinage replacing "his-" in history with "her-," used for accounts of the past centering women's experiences and contributions: a herstory of the suffrage movement.
The word treats a false etymology as real—history comes from Greek *historia* (inquiry), not from "his story"—but makes its political point effectively.
Some find it clever; others find it tiresome.
