disenfranchised
Denied voting rights
Disenfranchised means deprived of rights or privileges, especially the right to vote.
Historically, various groups were disenfranchised by law: Black voters were systematically disenfranchised through poll taxes and literacy tests.
The word now extends to anyone made to feel excluded or powerless within a system: disenfranchised youth, economically disenfranchised communities.
To feel disenfranchised is to feel shut out from participation or belonging.
