saints

Halos mark them

Saints is the plural of saint—people formally recognized by religious authorities for exceptional holiness, or more loosely, anyone of extraordinary virtue and patience: She's a saint for putting up with him.

In Christianity, saints are venerated figures who can intercede with God.

The word also appears in place names and institutional names: the streets of New Orleans are named after saints. (Capitalized Saints often refers to sports teams.)
