Narrative of events
Story is related to history and has some overlap in meaning with it and with narrative.
A story may be true (news story), have some particular theme (love story, success story, horror story), or invented (short story).
The story of something is a way of characterizing an account that includes causes and effects.
In American English, a story is also a level of a building; the British spelling of this word is storey.
