irony
Reality mocking expectations
Irony is easily recognizable, but hard to define.
The feature that most often characterizes irony is the presence of two contradictory or opposite things, such as when you say one thing but really mean the opposite: There was irony in her voice as she praised the officials for their efforts.
Sometimes the contrast in irony is between expectations and reality: Oh the irony! Right after I rented the convertible, it started to rain.
