villain
Hero's evil opponent
A villain is a character who opposes the hero in a story—the antagonist whose schemes or cruelty drive the plot: Every good story needs a compelling villain.
By extension, villain describes anyone perceived as wicked or responsible for harm: He was cast as the villain in the scandal.
The word carries theatrical overtones even in real-world use, suggesting deliberate malice rather than mere wrongdoing.
