shade
Where it's cooler
Shade is an area out of direct sunlight, like the shade of a tree on the ground around it.
By extension, a lampshade is placed over a light bulb to reduce the intensity of its light; informally, shades are sunglasses.
A shade of something is a form of it slightly different than another: It was a lighter shade of blue.
To shade something is to shelter it from the sun or strong light.
This use is usually adjectival (shaded patio, shaded window).
