hint
Nudge toward understanding
A hint is a slight indication or indirect suggestion, enough to guide without fully revealing: He dropped hints about the surprise party.
To hint is to suggest something indirectly: She hinted that she might resign.
A hint can also be a small amount: a hint of garlic, a hint of autumn in the air.
