tint

Wash of color

A tint is a slight coloring or shade, typically a pale or delicate variation of a color: a pinkish tint, tinted windows.

To tint is to apply such coloring: She tinted her hair auburn.

A tint can also be a trace or hint of something: a tint of sadness in her voice.

In color theory, a tint is a color mixed with white, as opposed to a shade (mixed with black).
