blackout
Total loss of consciousness
A blackout is a loss of light or consciousness.
Power blackouts plunge areas into darkness; memory blackouts leave gaps you can't recover.
During wartime, blackouts meant extinguishing lights to avoid enemy detection.
In media, a blackout blocks coverage or broadcast: a news blackout, The game is blacked out in the local market.
To black out is to lose consciousness or to suppress information.
