veil
Sheer face covering
A veil is a piece of fabric worn to conceal or protect the face or head.
Brides wear veils at weddings; some religious traditions require women to veil in public.
The word extends to anything that obscures: a veil of fog, a veil of secrecy.
To veil something is to cover or hide it: She made a thinly veiled threat.
To take the veil is to become a nun.
