sandblasting

Pressurized grit cleaning

Sandblasting is a process of cleaning, smoothing, or etching a surface by propelling fine particles at high velocity, typically using compressed air.

Despite the name, the abrasive material may be sand, glass beads, walnut shells, or other substances.

The technique removes rust, paint, and corrosion from metal, or creates frosted effects on glass: The crew sandblasted the old bridge before repainting.
