stains
Fabric's lasting blemishes
Stains are marks or discolorations left on a surface, typically from spilled liquids or contact with substances that penetrate or bond with the material: coffee stains on the carpet, grass stains on jeans.
To stain is to leave such a mark, or to apply coloring deliberately: stain the deck.
Figuratively, a stain is a blemish on reputation or character: a stain on his record.
