Buffing is polishing or shining a surface by rubbing it, typically with a soft cloth or rotating wheel: He spent the afternoon buffing the car to a mirror finish.
In gaming slang, buffing means temporarily enhancing a character's abilities or stats: The healer kept buffing the tank during the raid.
A buff can also describe someone who enthusiastically polishes their physique at the gym.
