glass blowing
Forming hot vessels
Glass blowing is the craft of shaping molten glass by inflating it through a long hollow tube called a blowpipe.
The glassblower gathers hot glass on the end of the pipe, then blows air through it to form a bubble that can be manipulated into vessels, sculptures, and decorative objects.
The technique requires precise timing and temperature control, as the glass must remain hot enough to be workable but not so fluid that it loses shape.
We watched a glass blowing demonstration at the art museum.
