hood
Parka's head covering
Hood is a covering for the head, typically attached to a garment like a coat or sweatshirt: She pulled up her hood against the rain.
In American English, a hood covers a car's engine (British: bonnet).
A hood also covers anything else—a range hood vents cooking fumes, a lens hood blocks light.
As slang, hood is short for neighborhood, especially a poor urban area: back in the hood.
It can also mean hoodlum: a couple of hoods looking for trouble.
