acid etching
Chemical surface carving
Acid etching is a technique for creating designs or textures on hard surfaces—glass, metal, stone—by applying acid that eats away at the material.
Areas protected by a resistant coating remain untouched while exposed areas are corroded, producing patterns, text, or images.
The technique is used in printmaking, semiconductor manufacturing, and decorative arts: The bathroom mirror featured acid-etched designs.
