foreword

Guest author's introduction

A foreword is an introductory section of a book, typically written by someone other than the author—often a notable figure lending credibility or context to the work.

It precedes the main text and usually explains why the book matters or how the writer knows the author.

Not to be confused with forward, though the spelling error is common.
