appendix

Book's back matter

An appendix is supplementary material at the end of a book or document—charts, data, or detailed information that supports but isn't essential to the main text: The full interview transcripts appear in the appendix.

In anatomy, the appendix is a small tube-shaped pouch attached to the large intestine, vestigial in humans and prone to painful inflammation requiring surgical removal.

Plural: appendices or appendixes.
