endpapers

Cover's inner sheets

Endpapers are the sheets of paper at the front and back of a hardcover book, half pasted to the inside of the cover and half forming a flyleaf.

They attach the book block to its binding and often feature decorative patterns, maps, or illustrations: The antique atlas had marbled endpapers.

Also called endsheets.
