Pap test

Smear for cells

A Pap test is a medical screening procedure in which cells are collected from the cervix and examined under a microscope to detect precancerous or cancerous changes.

Named after Greek physician George Papanicolaou, who developed it.

Women are typically advised to have regular Pap tests starting in early adulthood: Her Pap test came back normal.

Also called Pap smear.
