dermoid

Cyst with tissue

Dermoid describes a cyst or tumor containing skin-like tissue—hair follicles, sweat glands, or teeth—in places where such tissue doesn't normally grow.

These growths develop from embryonic cells that became trapped during fetal development.

Most commonly found on ovaries or near the spine: The ultrasound revealed a dermoid cyst on her left ovary.
