talk

Have a conversation

Talk is verbal communication—the act of speaking, especially in conversation.

You can talk to someone, talk about something, or talk someone into doing something.

Talk also means the subject of conversation: She's the talk of the town.

As a noun, a talk is a speech or lecture.

Talks in the plural usually means negotiations: peace talks, trade talks.

To talk shop is to discuss work; to talk trash is to insult opponents; to talk the talk is to speak convincingly about something you may not actually do.
