edge

Where things end

Present in many of the uses of edge are the ideas of a boundary and a linear feature (house on the edge of town, feathers edged in red).

The edge of a blade is the sharp part.

Figuratively, an edge may be an advantage (height is an edge in basketball) or a state of nervousness or agitation: Traffic puts me on edge.

When you edge or edge an object, you move (yourself) or move the object slowly closer in a specified direction: She edged closer to him on the bench.
