lick
Dog's wet kiss
The verb lick characterizes the tongue passing over a surface for a variety of purposes: tasting, cleaning, stimulating.
Things that move in a similar way may be said to lick, like flames.
If you lick a problem or an opponent, however, you overcome them.
A lick is an instance of licking, an object or places where animals gather to lick (salt lick), or a hit: His father gave the boy several licks for lying.
Lick also refers to a small quantity: It doesn’t make a lick of difference.
