vocalization
Making vocal sounds
Vocalization is the act of producing sounds with the voice.
The term applies broadly—from a baby's early vocalizations to a singer's warm-up exercises to an animal's calls: The whale's vocalizations could be heard for miles.
In linguistics, vocalization refers specifically to pronouncing sounds using the vocal cords, or to the process of adding vowel sounds to consonantal writing systems.
