cork
Floats, stops bottles
Cork is the buoyant, spongy bark of a Mediterranean oak tree, used to make bottle stoppers, flooring, bulletin boards, and other products.
A cork is specifically the stopper itself: Pull the cork on that wine.
To cork is to seal with a cork.
Corked wine has been contaminated by a faulty cork, giving it a musty taste.
In baseball, a corked bat has been illegally hollowed and filled with cork to make it lighter. (Capitalized Cork is a city in Ireland.)
