cavity

Space within something

A cavity is a hollow space within something solid.

The body has cavities: the chest cavity, the abdominal cavity, the nasal cavity.

In everyday speech, cavity usually means a hole in a tooth caused by decay: The dentist found two cavities.

Cavities also appear in walls, rocks, and other materials where material has been removed or never formed.
