person
Any living soul
We often use person and human being synonymously.
The origin of person is the Latin persona, which indicates not a person but a person’s role in a play, a situation, or in life.
Since actors convincingly portrayed personas, it wasn’t a huge leap for the word’s meaning to morph into the equivalent of an individual human being.
Person remains closely related to the idea of role in its is grammatical meaning: the terms first person, second person, and third person are used in virtually all languages to distinguish inflections for verbs and pronouns.
