micron

Thousandth of millimeter

A micron is a unit of length equal to one millionth of a meter, also called a micrometer.

The term appears in contexts where precision matters at microscopic scales: particles smaller than five microns, a human hair is about 70 microns thick.

Manufacturing, biology, and materials science use microns to measure things too small for millimeters but too large for nanometers.
