dust
Fine airborne matter
Dust is fine particles of matter that are ubiquitous in the human environment.
Before another noun, dust means either consisting of it (dust storm, dust cloud) or for protection from it (dust jacket, dust mask).
As a verb, dust means remove dust from surfaces where it settles.
Dust can also mean sprinkle with a fine powder: Dust the cake with powdered sugar.
