mausoleum
Stately burial building
A mausoleum is a large, stately tomb—typically an above-ground stone building housing the remains of the dead.
The word comes from the elaborate tomb of Mausolus, an ancient king whose monument was one of the Seven Wonders.
Mausoleums are often found in cemeteries as family burial chambers: The family mausoleum held three generations of Vanderbilts.
