Taj Mahal

White marble tomb

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum in Agra, India, built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife.

Widely considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, it serves as shorthand for architectural perfection or romantic devotion: He promised her the Taj Mahal.

The name sometimes describes anything impressively grand: They built a Taj Mahal of a house.
