cornice

Ceiling edge trim

A cornice is a horizontal molding that projects from a wall or building, typically where the wall meets the roof or ceiling.

In architecture, it crowns a structure or divides it into sections: an ornate cornice runs along the top of the building.

In mountaineering, a cornice is an overhanging mass of snow or ice formed by wind at a ridge or cliff edge—dangerous because it can break off: The climber tested the cornice before crossing.
