chapel
Intimate worship space
A chapel is a small place of worship, either a standalone building or a room within a larger structure like a hospital, prison, or university.
Chapels are typically simpler and more intimate than churches.
The word also refers to a section of a larger church containing its own altar: the Lady Chapel in the cathedral.
In British usage, chapel can mean a nonconformist Protestant congregation, distinct from the Church of England.
