requiem

Music for departed

A requiem is a Mass for the dead in the Roman Catholic Church, or the musical setting of that liturgy.

Mozart's Requiem and Verdi's Requiem are among the most celebrated.

By extension, requiem describes any solemn piece commemorating the dead, or figuratively, a final tribute to something that has ended: The documentary served as a requiem for the dying industry.
