necropolis
City of tombs
A necropolis is a cemetery, especially a large, elaborate, or ancient one.
The word literally means "city of the dead" and typically refers to burial grounds of historical significance: the vast necropolis outside ancient Alexandria, Victorian necropolises with their ornate monuments.
The term carries more gravity than cemetery, suggesting scale or antiquity.
