lying in state
Public funeral display
Lying in state is the formal public display of a deceased person's body before burial, typically in a government building.
The honor is reserved for heads of state, high officials, and national figures: Thousands filed past the president lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda.
The casket usually rests on a raised platform called a catafalque, often draped with a national flag.
