ulceration
Open wound formation
Ulceration is the formation of an ulcer—an open sore on skin or mucous membrane that resists healing.
The term covers both the process and the result: Ulceration of the stomach lining can cause internal bleeding.
Doctors speak of ulceration when tissue breaks down and exposes underlying layers, whether from infection, poor circulation, or chronic irritation.
