granuloma

Walled-off tissue inflammation

A granuloma is a small mass of inflamed tissue, typically formed when the immune system walls off substances it perceives as foreign but cannot eliminate.

Granulomas appear in conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, and Crohn's disease, and can form around splinters or other foreign bodies: The biopsy revealed granulomas consistent with fungal infection.
