skin lesion
Abnormal dermal area
A skin lesion is any abnormal area on the skin—a cut, sore, rash, mole, wart, blister, or tumor.
The term is broad and clinical, covering everything from minor scrapes to cancerous growths.
Doctors use it as a neutral descriptor before determining what the abnormality actually is: The dermatologist noted several suspicious skin lesions on his back.
