hives
Allergic skin bumps
Hives is a skin condition marked by raised, itchy welts that appear suddenly and may shift location.
Also called urticaria, hives typically result from allergic reactions, stress, or illness: She broke out in hives after eating shellfish.
The welts usually fade within hours but can recur.
Separately, hives is the plural of hive—structures housing bees or figuratively any busy place.
