calcification
Calcium deposit buildup
Calcification is the accumulation of calcium salts in body tissue, often where they don't belong.
In medicine, it can signal disease or aging: The X-ray showed calcification in the arteries.
Figuratively, calcification describes ideas or institutions that have hardened and become inflexible: the calcification of once-progressive policies into rigid orthodoxy.
