precancerous lesions
Pre-malignant tissue abnormalities
Precancerous lesions are abnormal tissue growths that aren't yet cancer but have potential to become malignant.
Doctors identify and monitor or remove them to prevent cancer from developing.
Common examples include certain skin spots, colon polyps, and cervical abnormalities detected by Pap smears: The biopsy revealed precancerous lesions that were removed during the procedure.
